Snowfall Warning Calls For Up To 20cm Of Snow In Montreal & Parts Of Southern Quebec

Spread the love

Just like that, Montreal is about to experience our first dump of snow, with Environment Canada issuing a snowfall warning for many regions in Southern Quebec. We can expect up to 20 cm of snow in Montreal between today and tomorrow.

It seems like just yesterday I was doing a little morning dance when I saw a spattering of snow on the ground… in fact, it was just last week.

And now here we are, being warned to expect heavy snow that is likely going to turn our fair city into a true winter wonderland in a matter of a day or two.

It also looks like there will be snow coming down later in the week, as well, with a couple day sunny days in between… so Montreal may be jumping into the exciting cycle of melting and freezing that turns our city into a giant ice rink.

Environment Canada is forecasting that the snow will begin today, later this afternoon, and will “intensify” as it continues to fall overnight and into Tuesday.

Below is the forecast for this week in Montreal, provided by Environment Canada. The snow is expected to begin this afternoon, reaching about 2 cm, along with 15 km/hr winds and a high of -4°C.

Then, tonight, as snowfall continues it is expected to get heavier, reaching about 15 cm as winds pick up to 20 km/hr overnight but reaching 40 km/hr by Tuesday morning.

The windchill for Tuesday morning is expected to make the temperature feel like -14°C.

Environment Canada warns that “the Tuesday morning commute is expected to be particularly difficult,” which will be especially true for anyone who has yet to put their winter tires on.

You might want to get on that if you haven’t done it yet.

The snow is expected to end around noon on Tuesday in Montreal, but this storm track is expected to continue moving east, meaning areas east of Montreal may see snow later into the day on Tuesday.
