Snowbirds plane crashes into house while flying over Kamloops

Emergency crews are rushing to the scene after a Canadian Forces Snowbird plane crashed during a fly over in Kamloops, B.C. on Sunday afternoon.

Two planes took off from the Kamloops Airport around 11:30 a.m. when one plane turned around abruptly in mid-air, spewing black smoke before nose-diving toward the ground.

The plane then crashed into a house in the Brocklehurst neighbourhood of Kamloops.

It’s unclear how many Snowbirds were aboard the aircraft; it’s possible that the pilot was travelling with a companion when the tragic accident took place.

An eye witness reported seeing the pilot open the eject shoot, and Health Minister Adrian Dix has confirmed that paramedics transported an individual to the hospital.

Videos and photos of first responders transporting a Snowbirds member from the roof of a house has also surfaced on social media.

The CF Snowbirds confirmed the plane crash on their official Twitter account.

“Our priority at this time is determining the status of our personnel and supporting emergency personnel,” they said. “When appropriate, more information will be made available.”

The Snowbirds are flying across Canada as part of Operation Inspiration, a nationwide salute to frontline healthcare workers, first responders, and essential workers.
