Public health officials and heathcare workers in Canada are being honored with street murals

One Canadian business owner has figured out how to turn the depressing sight of boarded up shop windows into something inspiring.

Kimprints Custom Framing & Gifts owner Kim Briscoe had the idea to make the boards in front of her store into art this week, reaching out to local artists she knows through her business.

Painters sprung into action, with Breece Austindecorating a board with an image of Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam.

She also put her skills into action painting Minister of Health Patty Hajdu.

We love you VANCOUVER! ❤️ We can’t wait to open back up and see all of you in the shop as soon as this is over. In the meantime, stay safe and strong. Thanks to fearless leaders like our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, we got this! . . Abi Taylor created a colourful portrait of Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer for British Columbia.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Health for the province of Alberta, has been depicted by artist David Austin.

He also created a more general image expressing how we should all remain peaceful, yet two metres apart.

Some works are even more symbolic, like a painting of a bird carrying a roll of toilet paper by Olivia Knight.

Let’s hope this artistic idea catches on and spreads to other Canadian cities, because it certainly injects life back into the storefronts and city streets that have all too suddenly fallen silent.
