Everyone’s favourite 90s Christmas movie is getting a reboot in 2020, and it’s currently set to film in Montreal.

According to Pop Goes The News, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in early February and it’ll air on the new wildly popular streaming platform Disney+.

Back in August, Disney CEO Bob Iger announcedthe company would be “reimagining” the classic film along with other family favourites including Night at the MuseumCheaper by the Dozen and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

The original film — which told the story of a young boy who’s forced to fight off a pair of brainless thieves when his family accidentally leaves him at home during their Christmas vacation — was a box office hit, bringing in almost $480 million.

Casting for the new version of the film is still unknown, but the movie’s original star Macaulay Culkin showed some serious interest in participating when the reboot was first announced.

According to Collider, the new film will follow a different plot in which a husband and wife duo must fight off a delinquent boy who steals from them.

And while the cast and crew have yet to be decided, The Observer reported that Borat writer Dan Mazer is in talks to direct a script co-written by Saturday Night Livefavourites Mikey Day and Streeter Seidel.

Either way, filming in Montreal is set to wrap in mid-April, 2020.
