There’s a new test on the block.
Health Canada has given the green light to a rapid COVID-19 testing device that can produce results in just 15 minutes.
The latest diagnostic tool called ID NOW COVID-19 was added to the authorized medical devices list on September 30.
The big yes comes one day following the federal government’s announcement that it would buy around 7.9 million of the new tests from the U.S.-based firm for distribution in Canada.
As a result, this can now allow for millions of more tests for Canadians across the country, which is struggling with a second surge in cases.
Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand announced the brand new deal during a press conference on September 29.
The new nasal swab-based point-of-care test will give Canadians results in about 15 minutes.
This will allow medical staff to get a real-time, lab-quality diagnosis a lot faster than methods used prior.
