After the second case of coronavirus was announced in Toronto yesterday morning, the public is now urging the government to suspend all flights from Canada to China.
The coronavirus is now in 18 countries. There are currently two confirmed cases in Canada and more than 4,500 in China.
Understandably, Canadians are nervous about the virus. Although government officials have said that the risk to Canadians is low, nobody wants a repeat of the SARS pandemic.
With many countries moving to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan — and companies such as Facebook restricting their employees travel to China entirely — Canadians have begun to ask themselves a tricky question: should we be doing the same?
Many Canadians seem to think so.
Canadians are sending out dozens of Tweets, asking the Prime Minister to suspend all travel.
One woman has even started a petition to suspend all flights from China to Canada — and it’s already amassed 3,700 signatures.
No word yet on whether the Canadian government is considering acting on this petition.
For now, remember that the best way to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses is to wash your hands as much as possible.
