In an update shared on September 30, Public Safety Canada confirmed that Canada’s travel ban had been extended even further.

The notice, shared via Twitter, said that travel restrictions into the country would be continued until at least October 31.

This extended restriction applies to anyone entering Canada from a country other than the United States.

This step was initially taken by the Canadian federal government back in March due to COVID-19 concerns.

“We will be closing our borders to people who are not citizens or permanent residents of Canada,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau explained at the time.

Limited exceptions are possible for immediate family members of citizens or permanent residents.

In September, an extension to the Canada-U.S. border closure was also announced.

It’s expected to remain closed until October 21, although this could be extended once again.

For Canadians and residents who are coming home, a mandatory quarantine period remains in place.
