Christmas is going to look very different this year in Ontario.
It’s official — Doug Ford has announced Ontario’s holiday guidelines and the message is simple.
All Ontarians, regardless of their region, are being asked to celebrate holidays with their immediate household members only, except for those who live alone who can join with one other household.
Ford began by speaking directly to Ontarians, saying that this holiday season will be like no other.
“If you live alone, you can join one other household. So you won’t be alone for the holidays,” he said.
Instead of seeing family, the province is officially recommending virtual events.
“Avoid big holiday parties or large family dinners to help us stop the spread of this deadly virus,” says the province’s guide for celebrations this year.
Ford has discouraged Ontarians from travelling to different public health regions, especially from high-transmission zones. He also urges residents not to travel within Canada.
Health Minister Christine Elliott provided Ontario with some optimism, though.
“With news of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, there’s light at the end of the tunnel,” she said. “We’re almost there.”
