Canadian officials have confirmed that coronavirus has officially spread to British Columbia.
The B.C. Centre of Disease revealed that a third case of coronavirus has been identified in Canada, following the confirmation of two cases in Toronto. The individual is a 40-year-old man in Vancouver who travels to China regularly.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that the man “voluntarily self-isolated” after experiencing symptoms.
The individual did not have any symptoms on the flight — although it’s still unclear whether asymptomatic transmission of the disease is possible.
The man is currently in isolation, and his family is being monitored by Vancouver Coastal Health.
Henry said that she was expecting the case, adding that she would have been “surprised if we did not have one or two cases.”
Officials say the risk of the virus spreading within B.C. remains low.
